Alumni Feature Luisa and Dominic: "We have lovely memories of Montana."

The “tech tandem” with fond memories of Montana.
The decision to study at Institut Montana Switzerland is unique for each student. For Luisa, coming from a multinational family, it was about experiencing diversity. Dominic's parents were captivated by the school's serene, peaceful location. But both have something in common: They find it hard to pick the best memory from Montana. Because simply, they had too many great ones.
Dive deeper into the article to learn more about their fascinating journey from the school, growing up, to building Mindmode, a disruptive AI startup that helps you absorb cultural information- in a fun and interactive way!
What brought them to study at Institut Montana Switzerland
With a mother from the United States and a father from Denmark, Luisa's previous educational environment lacked the international atmosphere that her parents desired for her. Further on, Luisa explained:
"They wanted a place where I could grow and learn within a global community. Their decision was based on the importance of early exposure to diverse cultures."
For Dominic, the journey to Montana was different. His parents explored various private school options, but when his mother visited the Zugerberg and was impressed with its stunning view, she knew it was the right place for him. The school’s tranquil, nature-surrounded setting, along with its strong sports programme, played a key role in Dominic's parents' decision.
Student life and fond memories of Montana
Both Luisa and Dominic attended Institut Montana Switzerland as day students. Reflecting on their favourite memories, they found it challenging to choose just one. For Luisa, Sports Day stood out—an event that not only fostered teamwork but also encouraged connections between students from different classes and age groups.
For Dominic, the most memorable moments were the foggy mornings in Zug. Traveling up to the Zugerberg and witnessing the sunrise break over the clouds created a truly magical experience, making it feel as though he was standing on cloud nine.
Influential teacher and lessons learned
Luisa credits Mrs. Verhar, her English and History teacher, as her most impactful mentor:
"Mrs. Verhar was the teacher who challenged us the most, her way of teaching was unique. I recall the high academic standards she expected from us, which significantly impacted my intellectual growth. She had this amazing ability to push us beyond mere surface-level understanding, encouraging us to critically analyse texts, question narratives, and pursue the underlying truths."
Luisa admits that this method of understanding information has become integral to approaching problems and ideas in my academic and professional life.
The importance of studying in an international environment
Dominic shared with us that the diversity of different backgrounds, which included individuals from various countries and other regions within Switzerland, has broadened his perspective and left lasting consequences on his personal and professional life. When it comes to his professional career, he feels confident working with and understanding people from diverse backgrounds. He added:
"Montana has definitely helped me develop this awareness. Another important outcome is the global network of friends I have today. I have made strong connections at Montana, and I am constantly amazed at how often I cross paths with fellow alumni in the most unexpected places around the world."
A message to someone considering studying at Institut Montana Switzerland
Dominic admitted that his time at Montana was one of the best times of his life, while Luisa thought that anyone would miss Montana after they graduate.
The most valuable learning
Dominic learned the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships through his time at the school. He said:
"I believe it was the small class sizes that enabled it. Many of the relationships I have today with Montana students are more than just acquaintances; they are friendships that I would consider part of my inner circle."
For Luisa, Montana is the lace where unforgettable memories are made.
Tips or advices for current students
Luisa advised current students to learn something new beyond their school curriculum. Luisa For her, that was filmmaking, a skill she acquired from the summer camp and largely self-taught thereafter. This skill secured her first job after graduation from Montana and significantly benefited her university studies and, later, her own company. She believes gaining proficiency in emerging technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence, such as prompt engineering, could be a helpful skill in the future. Such skills can distinguish individuals in a very competitive job market later on, so take the initiative to explore new domains.
Dominic's advise to students will be to enjoy the time being there, as life will only get more serious after that.
We thank Luisa and Dominic for their fun, mind-stimulating "AI Superhero" workshop to our last year's summer camp.
About Mindmode
Intrigued to learn more about Mindmode? Check out our brief Q&A with Luisa and Dominic below.
When did you start Mindmode and what inspires you?
We started Mindmode in May 2023 after encountering the power of generative Artificial Intelligence in November 2022. The technology inspired us. Human progress is based on our intelligence, and thanks to technological advancements, now is the first time we can artificially create sparks of intelligence - it is truly fascinating.
First, we experimented with implementing this powerful technology in companies due to its immense potential. From this process, we identified a perfect use case as a team for what we are now building a product called Gaudío. Simply said, Gaudío is a software-as-a-service for cultural institutions. We are working on a generative AI-driven personal guide that transforms visits into immersive, interactive learning adventures. Imagine talking to Pablo Picasso while looking at his paintings or experiencing the history of Genghis Khan through his view.
What kind of educative activities do you offer?
We have extensive knowledge of generative AI, having been involved with the technology since its early stages. As a result, we offer training on using and implementing generative AI, focusing on the art and cultural sectors. We are very passionate about sharing our expertise with others.
What are your plans/goals for Mindmode in the next couple of years
Our company, Mindmode, will focus on building Gaudío in the following months. Our goal is to cover use cases where the experience of learning, while being guided through a physical space is of primary interest. Think of museums, art exhibitions, city tours, and other venues of historical importance, such as the Institut Montana on the Zugerberg. We will create a personal guide that tells stories based on your interests and knowledge levels. Our mission is to make cultural knowledge more accessible and enjoyable, for everyone.
